We do more than just figure skating
Desert Ice Figure Skating Club members involve themselves in activities and interest other that just figure skating. We will be using this page to let you know about some of these activities.
Michael Gray -
Michael is a active 18-year-old identical twin (brother named Mark)
who likes music, theater and weight training. Michael likes being a
leader and loves working with kids. He often helps his family teach
and train the two-year-olds at their local church. And of course as
far as figure skating goes... it's his coaches,
Megan and Mandy Edwards
that are his biggest influence.
Rachel Ruckman -
Rachel is an avid reader who will often try to hide the fact that
she's up reading at night when she should be sleeping! When she was
in the first grade, she won a city-wide "Read With The Lobos"
contest after reading 160 + books over a six week period. She is
also a talented writer and enjoys writing stories, poetry, and
journaling. Rachel is also a theme-park junkie. Her ideal trip would
be to travel the world and ride every roller coaster that exists on
earth. She also loves dogs, especially our collie-cross named
Chelsea. She started skating in the Learn to Skate classes when she
was six years old. A few months later she started taking private
lessons from Megan and Mandy Edwards.
Ishtar Schneider -
Ishtar will be a 12th grader at Albuquerque Academy. Ishtar has
many interests including reading, swimming, ice skating,
playing tennis, ballet and dancing. She participated in Dance
Troupe in school last year. She is working on moving up to
Intermediate level in skating. She is tutoring a young boy this
summer.
Tawney Wiltsie -
Tawney was very active in dancing, acting and singing before she became
interested in figure skating. She enjoyed performing in recitals and
church plays every chance she got. When she has free time it is usually
spent on her computer, listening to music or in a swimming pool!
In the summer of 2002 Tawney’s skating passion began after she participated
in a Learn to Skate program when she was 8 ½ years old. Megan Edwards was
her instructor and has continued to coach Tawney along with her sister Mandy Edwards.
Competitions and performing in shows is what Tawney loves most about skating.
Her skating goals are to become a Double Gold level skater and to continue
competing and performing for as long as her body will let her!!
